Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson Reunite with Wedding Crashers Director for Xfinity Sports Season

RSA Films’ David Dobkin and creative agency Preacher bring the comedy icons back together for a ‘Long weekend’ of live sports and streaming with the Comcast telecoms business

With the NFL starting this weekend, Xfinity has reunited three legends of comedy to claim that the ‘X’ marks the spot for live sports and streaming this season.

Created by Austin-based creative agency Preacher, the campaign reunites ‘Wedding Crashers’ stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn with the film’s director, David Dobkin, staging a ‘Long Weekend’ of football and food in front of the TV.

The actors revive their friendly rivalry, bantering about their respective fandoms, but ultimately agreeing on one thing – that Xfinity’s game-day features make it the best viewing experience. According to Preacher’s executive creative director, Greg Hunter, the pair were chosen not just for the ‘Wedding Crashers’ connection, but for their natural chemistry and real-life passion for sports.

“Wilson and Vaughn’s blend of playful bickering and genuine supportiveness fit the bill perfectly,” he said. “Watching the stars back on set with the director of ‘Wedding Crashers’, rekindling the dynamic from that beloved film was pretty magical. It felt like we were filming a series the whole world probably wishes existed.”

It’s the first time the Ridley Scott Associates director has worked with the duo since the blockbuster comedy hit theatres 20 years ago, but the chemistry ‘remains magic’, said David. “They constantly push each other, which I think is always necessary if you want to make something really good and really fresh.

“This is something the studio has been trying to get us to do for 20 years… Along came the scripts from Preacher, which were great, so we dove in with a commitment to the comedy, knowing we had to play it real, to really commit to the ridiculousness of the idea.”

The spot, which was filmed in LA at Universal Studios, premieres tomorrow during the Eagles versus Cowboys game – one of American football’s most storied rivalries. Vince and Owen will continue to star in a series of films rolling out this autumn and into 2026.
