Creative agency McKinney, Voices of Alzheimer’s, and the VoA Foundation have partnered to launch a powerful campaign highlighting the importance of early testing and detection.
The campaign follows a recent study exploring how early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias can improve outcomes for those affected.
The new animated campaign, titled 'Check, Mate,' tells the story of two friends (and Chess buddies) whose bond is tested as cognitive decline begins to erode their shared memories, capturing the emotional toll of memory loss through mixed-media animation.
Their story highlights the power of early cognitive screening, showing how a simple step can make a life-changing difference.
Alzheimer’s doesn’t just take memories — it reshapes lives, relationships, and traditions. Early detection can open the door to treatment, planning, and hope. With new FDA-approved therapies available to slow progression, regular cognitive screening has never been more important.
'Check, Mate' was created to spark conversations. By showing one friend encouraging another to seek screening, the film delivers a powerful message: Don’t wait. Ask your doctor for a memory screening at your next appointment.
'Check, Mate' was created pro bono by McKinney and animation studio Nathan Love to encourage those over the age of 65 to undergo regular baseline cognitive screenings. The work debuted around World Alzheimer’s Day, September 21, 2025, across VoA’s website and social platforms.
