Johnny Foreigner has welcomed female film director and screenwriter Neda Morfova to its roster for UK representation.
Neda’s work bridges the worlds of fiction and commercial filmmaking, marked by poetic realism, emotional depth, and an instinctive understanding of human connection. Growing up backstage at Sofia’s National Theatre with an actress mother and a director father, she was immersed in storytelling from an early age. Having spent her childhood between Bulgaria, the UK, and the US, her worldview carries a distinctly multicultural sensibility that informs her visual language and narrative tone.
A graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art, Neda wrote and directed the award-winning short 'Morning', which received the Jameson Short Film Award at the Sofia International Film Festival and screened at numerous international festivals. At just 21, she became one of the first female commercial directors in Bulgaria, paving the way for a new generation of female filmmakers and establishing a voice defined by authenticity and bold visual expression.
Specialising in lifestyle, children and fashion, her films blend intimate emotion with gritty yet stylised cinematic imagery. Known for filming in natural light and creating a safe, intuitive environment on set, Neda’s camera creates beauty in the unvarnished real. She often casts real families and allows genuine, unscripted moments to unfold naturally. She also enjoys capturing stills herself and seamlessly uses this mixed media to heighten emotional resonance and texture.
Neda's first long-format project as writer and director — the six-episode drama series 'We, The Waves', produced by the Bulgarian National Television, aired in April 2025.
Alongside her fiction work, Neda continues to direct high-profile commercial campaigns for major European brands, maintaining her commitment to authentic, visually compelling storytelling. Her work uncovers rather than imposes — exploring truth, tenderness, and the quietly extraordinary moments that connect us all.
Johnny Foreigner founder, Olivia Hirschberg commented, “Neda’s work feels both intimate and expansive — she captures emotion with a raw honesty that draws you in and stays with you. She has this great ability to weave cinematic beauty from real, unguarded moments, which I feel gives her an exciting and distinctive voice. I am thrilled to introduce her to the UK market, the feedback has already been really encouraging.”
Whilst Neda added, “I’ve always been drawn to the small, quiet truths of human connection — the moments that feel both ordinary and infinite. Joining Johnny Foreigner feels like a natural step toward finding new stories and collaborators who see the world with the same curiosity and honesty.”
