Pan-European initiative challenges harmful digital practices and celebrates innovative ideas promoting safer online experiences for children

The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA), together with the 5Rights Foundation and ACT Responsible, has released the shortlist for Campaign4Good: Safety by Design, the pan-European creative competition mobilising young talent to challenge harmful digital practices and advocate for a safer online world for children, one of the most concerning challenges of our time.

The first edition of the project attracted nearly 50 entries from agencies across Europe and beyond. This reflects an impressive level of creative ambition and strategic maturity among young professionals. The strong interest also shows that the industry is ready and willing to make a positive, lasting impact on society. The submissions offered a rich variety of approaches, including thoughtful storytelling, careful analysis of digital systems, emotionally engaging ideas and concept-driven work. Many explored issues such as addictive online behaviour, the risks children face when adults are not present, the shortcomings of age verification and the need to rethink how digital spaces are designed. Overall, the work showed a deep understanding of how digital environments shape children’s experiences, safety and independence. It also made clear that young creatives are eager to question existing practices and to support meaningful change.

Following an extensive evaluation process, the jury selected six standout projects, each recognised for a campaign with strong insight, clarity of purpose and the potential to shift public understanding at scale:

  • Dentsu Creative Italy — Break the Loop
  • Innocean Worldwide Europe GmbH — Terms, Conditions and Children
  • Klick Health UK — When You’re Not Around, Someone Else Is
  • Hvíta húsið (Iceland) — Playing by the Rules
  • MITO Group (Hungary) — Lumen
  • Maverick (Azerbaijan) — #RewriteTheStory

A high-level cross-industry jury including MEPs Manuela Ripa, Hristo Petrov and Dóra Dávid, reviewed all submissions and identified the campaigns with the strongest creative and strategic potential to advance the Safety by Design mission.

“I feel a huge sense of responsibility in setting this initiative in motion, both to our wonderful partners in 5Rights Foundation but more importantly, to do right by the children we’re aiming to protect”, said Charley Stoney, CEO, EACA. “I am therefore supremely grateful to our young creative professionals across Europe for delivering such a variety of ideas and approaches for next year’s Europe wide campaign. I saw all the entries and I can’t being to tell you how difficult it was to pick the short-list as the quality was exceptional.”

“We are delighted to see the creative communications industry make this commitment to responsible advertising and very excited to work together on a public outreach campaign. Everyone has a role to play if we are to building the digital world children deserve. I am sure the winning campaign will mark a turning point, inspiring parents, young people and citizens across Europe to join us and the EACA young creatives in demanding a kinder, safer and fairer digital world for children”, said Leanda Barrington-Leach, executive director at 5Rights.

The winning campaign will be announced at the Effie Europe Gala Dinner in Brussels on 10 December 2025, where it will be presented by Commissioner Michael McGrath, responsible for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection.
