This Christmas, Apple has taken festive creativity to dazzling new heights. For the first time ever, the public has been invited to design the signature holiday projections that will light up the 330-foot chimneys of Battersea Power Station, Apple's UK headquarters.
From December 4-24, 24 selected designs from Apple’s 'Your Tree on Battersea' competition will be projected onto the iconic building each evening from 5-10:30 p.m., visible across London from the South Bank of the Thames. Every design was created entirely on iPad.
Among the winners: Miah D.B., a 7-year-old whose tree is adorned with expressive faces inspired by emotions; Varsha Simha from Canterbury, who, despite not traditionally celebrating Christmas, found festive inspiration in Christmas market sweaters; and Mister Hope from Buxton, who imagined whimsical creatures so enamoured with Christmas they dress like trees themselves. These public submissions join designs from Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE, and competition host Munya Chawawa.
This is the third year of Apple’s Battersea holiday projections, following David Hockney’s 'Bigger Christmas Trees' created on iPad Pro in 2023 and last year’s Wallace & Gromit animation captured on iPhone 16 Pro Max. Opening the competition to the public is a natural next step—celebrating creativity at every level and using technology to make public art accessible on one of London’s most prominent stages.
